Hello, fall

Whoops, I definitely didn't intend to have back-to-back posts of photos of myself, but I was excited that it was finally trench coat weather this weekend and wanted to share. This post is also very much inspired by this pin.

I am by no means a style blogger, but I do want to say how much I appreciate a good trench coat. The first month after I moved into the city (about 3 years ago), I decided I was going to invest in a Burberry trench. Because every time I bought a not-Burberry trench, I wore it for a season and got sick of it or it lost its shape or whatever. So why not get THE classic that will last me years and years. I went to the flagship store on 57th Street and (after multiple visits and some alterations) came home with a tan timeless mid-length trench. The sales lady warned me that I would want a black one - she said, "Everyone always comes back for the black." Well, lo and behold, guess where I found myself again earlier this month when the weather started turning cool... Now I'm wondering if she just said that to plant the idea in my head!

The thing is, my tan trench gets SO DIRTY so quickly because hell, I live in a dirty city and I walk a lot. And I take public transportation. And cleaning that thing ain't cheap. So at least the black trench doesn't show dirt and grime. And I feel instantly put-together with a well-fitting trench. Even if I'm just wearing jeans and a tee (which is the case 99% of the time).

The details:
Bag - Givenchy
Shoes - Madewell
Jeans - Current Elliott (the ankle jeans are great for petites!)
Shirt - Everlane
Trench - Burberry
Glasses - Warby Parker

What about you guys? Do you have certain investment pieces in your closet?

  4. i never owed a trench coat, maybe because i haven't seriously been looking for one. i love the classic and chic look of yours. i strongly believe in investment pieces. i bought a pair of black bcbgmaxazria boots with a chunky heel last winter and it was one of my best purchases. they are comfy and versatile. everything i need in a shoe.

  8. hi Alice. i love the trench coat on you. i am also a firm believer in a good trench coat. unfortunately i haven't mustered the money to invest in a burberry; however, my investment pieces are handbags. i consider myself a shoe person but realized i put more money into my handbags than shoes or clothes. probably b/c my bags take a good beating and they still last a pretty long time. lol.

  12. Alice, I know you often say that you're not a style blogger. However, I suggest you should take more pics of yourself because your style is 1) impeccable 2) relatable 3) understated 4) always chic. Oh, and not forgetting the photography is beyond outstanding. As for me, I'm dying to get my hands on a Burberry trench coat.

  13. Alice, first off I just want to say I'm a huge fan! I should be studying for midterms right now but I've been obsessing over your blog/Instagram for the past two hours. I was wondering if you would ever consider doing an instructional post for shooting and editing with your iPhone. Maybe even a video(?!). I love your simple, fun style and would love to know how you do it.

    Thanks!

and I love your outfit. :) for me, personally, I like investing in bags, hehe, because I'm such a hoarder, I always bring everything with me, so I need a good bag to hold all of that stuff LOL.

  15. Long time follower of your blog and instagrams, but this is my first time commenting. I really love your way of seeing and the way you are processing your photos.

I am a guy, not really into clothes even though I appreciate the looks of well dressed men and women. There is one thing though that I find hard to resist and that is leather jackets. I spend way too much money every second year or so on yet another leather jacket, and once bought I wear them and love them forever. My partner says that I should get rid of the oldest ones to make room in the wardrobe, but these are the most loved and worn ones so it is impossible to bring them to the second hand store.

Black leather jackets in all kind of styles are certainly investment pieces in my wardrobe.

    1. Why hello and thanks for your first comment! I have definitely coveted a nice leather jacket or two, but think I can't quite pull them off. There is a certain edginess that I'm not quite fit for!

  17. White and champagne tones, even if they differ only nuances, like an ugly overall picture.
