Some good times with the always adorable and very talented Jen Sosa in Williamsburg today. She let me use her 50mm f1.2 and I was instantly smitten. I will be running to buy this lens. Everyone knows the 50mm f1.4 has some finicky focusing. Mine has been really rebellious lately, and in dark restaurants, it never wants to autofocus anymore. Clearly it's time for an upgrade...
All of these were shot wide open.
Thanks to Jen for this last shot. I was playing with the 45mm TS-E on her camera. Yet another lens that is creeping to the top of my "must-have" list. Ooh boy. And here I was thinking I had all the equipment I really "needed" for this business.
I want one...
ReplyDeletehah, one can never have enough photographic equipment! that's where they getcha.. $$$$$
ReplyDeleteooh nice. i've always wanted to see how this lens was. and the 45mm TS-E too. but i can't try them out, otherwise i'd have serious lens lust (once again).
ReplyDeletedroooool...
ReplyDeleteall at 1.2? a-m-a-z-i-n-g!
gear lust post. gotta love it. have to curb mine...o_O
ReplyDeletegorgeous, love the second-to-last shot
ReplyDeletei never regretted it for a secon! :) have fun with this magic lens
ReplyDeletebtw: are you shooting in jpg or raw?
I'm looking into buying a new lense and was looking at the 50mm f1.4, you wouldn't recommend it?
ReplyDeleteYou must be so relieved that you didn't fall in love with the 35 1.2 then!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThere's always another lens, huh? I swear every time I convince myself (and the wife) that I'm completely satisfied with my current gear set, I see or get my hands on something awesome...that I don't happen to have. Doh! Beautiful images with the 1.2!
ReplyDeleteWow these photos are gorgeous! I have a 50mm 1.8 an the only thing I don't like about it is how zoomed in it is. I would LOVE to be able to use it in restaurants sitting down, but I'd have to stand up and walk away if I ever wanted to.
ReplyDelete@Remo, I shoot in RAW.
ReplyDelete@Louise, don't get me wrong - the 50mm f1.4 is still a great lens, but sometimes the autofocus is just really finicky. I still love the bokeh with it!
Whilst non the f/1.2, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 I've found to be a great lens (I'm not the only one). May be worth a look for less money.
ReplyDeleteEnvy!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering whether it's the often talked about poor focussing of the 5D MKII, rather than the 1.4 specifically.
ReplyDeleteI'm a nikon shooter who actually wants to move to canon, looove those skin tones! But the only thing holding me back is that everyone talks about how bad the auto-focus of the 5D MKII is on lower light.
Thoughts?
Cute portraits. I found her blog again through your twitter and now have another blog to read. :)
