Sidewalk lunching

Every time I'm passing through the West Village, I always check out what's going on with its location of Le Pain Quotidien. Even though the whole city is littered with these cafes, I think I'm just drawn to these particular wooden chairs and tables outside. I have end up always snapping a photo or two. The above was taken with a Pentax 67, 105mm.

The first time I was in this area, I think I was charmed by the simple, but engaging outdoor furniture. I have this picture below as proof (taken with my Canon XTi, 50mm). At the time, I don't think I even knew what Le Pain Quotidien was.

It's also interesting to see what kind of processing I was into at the time (circa April 2009). If I had taken this shot now, I don't think I would have gone with such light tones.

Cheers, and Happy Wednesday!

  1. I love seeing how the style of a photographer changes over time. I was super into desaturated, filmy tones a year ago, but these past few months, I've been getting into more vivid colors. Who'da thunk it.

Anyway, lovely slice of life post. :) NYC is on my list of places that I must visit.

  3. My processing has changed too :) (basically because at the beginning, when I was using my old Kodak point-and-shot, there were almost no processing at all xD)

I just love cafés :) This is one of the reasons why I felt in love with Paris when I visited it: its huge amount of cozy cafés :D It's a pitty there are so few of them in my town T.T

  4. It's interesting to see a photographer evolve and I suppose seeing it yourself is comforting to know that you are growing as an artist too.

I love your photographs and even though you may not have chose to process your "wooden chair" shot now as you have then, I think it evokes a soft, summer sadness that is very inviting. :)
