Winter Still Life
An ongoing goal of mine is to become better with artificial light (because as much as I love natural light, not every space I shoot in has beautiful or abundant natural light). These are some results from today's practice. You almost can't tell that the first three were all shot with the same background.

This light looks so natural! what light/light kit are you using?
ReplyDeleteBravo!
ReplyDeletelovely!
ReplyDeleteWow, these are great... Happy new year Alice!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous, Alice! I definitely need to practice with more artificial light since my apartment is (almost) void of natural light. I either have to be up by 7am for photos or miss my chance entirely that day. On another note, I'm in love with all of these photo props, especially that floral shaped plate! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the light on the clementines, just perfect!
ReplyDeleteso pretty!
ReplyDeleteNicely done! Photos are beautiful!

ReplyDeleteyou're right, I never would have guessed. the second shot is especially beautiful I think
ReplyDeleteWould be interested in hearing about your set up. Might put some lighting on the 2014 wishlist.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so natural...you know what your doing! So Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely! I would never have guessed that it was artificial light, and its amazing how differently each background looks! What sort of light kit or bulb are you using? I've been looking for a natural light lamp or something as it's hard for me taking the majority of my blog photos after work which is always dark in the winter haha!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
Hi April, you should be able to achieve this look with a daylight balanced bulb and diffusing it through either a softbox or some other diffusion panel. Or, if you use Lightrroom, you can easily adjust the color temp to daylight. I found this neat little Kelvin color chart that might also be of some use:http://www.3drender.com/glossary/colortemp.htm
DeleteAnd Alice, I also love these images. Your instagram feed is amazing.
Great photographs!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! As others have mentioned, I would love to hear about your set up. Lighting is something that I would like to improve on as well.
ReplyDeletelights...i guess that introduces all sorts of technical complexities to photography. that being said...just saw a talk w/ a taiwanese director/cinematographer duo, (Hsou-Hsiao Hsien and Mark Lee Ping Bin). Someone asked them about lights...MLPB just shrugged and said something about how they didn't really use that much lights, just a 200 W bulb, usually...
ReplyDeleteamazing style and looked so loved
ReplyDeleteNice post. Thanks for sharing.
