It was very much an honor to shoot Jen and her space - she effortlessly created a beautiful scene. Shoots like this one hardly feel like work to me. Below are some outtakes (almost all shot on Contax 645 and Portra 160).

Kinfolk Vol. 5 and Outtakes (2 of 2)
For Vol. 5 of Kinfolk, I also had the opportunity to photograph Jennifer Causey for an interview feature. Jen is a veteran blogger (blogging way before it was cool) and has quite the prolific photography portfolio (i, ii). It's always a huge pleasure to shoot other photographers (they know what works with light and how to set a great scene), but the experience is still a bit tinged with intimidation for me (What will they think of how I work? Am I doing it wrong? Can they do it better? We photographers can be critical people! These are all the silly worries that live in the back of my head.).

It is normal to have worries and they aren't silly they are probably just questions you could ask and then you'll know. I know there are questions I have and at times I feel like an idiot for asking them but afterwards I learn a great deal and think "Wow I am so glad I asked that!" Also these photos and the objects within them are truly lovely. I adore your blog so.

ReplyDeleteThe photos are amazing. It's great to go on this journey with you.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are beautiful! It is natural to feel a bit nervous with any new experience but you have nothing to worry. Not only are your photos stunning, but I guess Jennifer Causey knows how it feels and is much more understanding than someone without those photography experiences would be.
ReplyDeleteLovely post :) They make me want to decorate!

Can't wait to see the new issue with your work in it.
ReplyDeleteHi Alice,
ReplyDeleteSo, I have been following you on instagram forever now. Finally, I looked you up (I hate looking at websites on the iPhone).
I really love your work, sensibilty, and style. I was telling my boyfriend that whenever I look at one of your photos, it doesn't matter if it's a dark interior or a light interior, it always has your touch.
Hope to keep up with your work !
Much love,
James
