Let's backtrack a little from the last post and our last meal in Paris. We had a pretty harrowing taxi ride from the airport to our Airbnb apartment in the 1st arrondissement. After our sleepless red eye flight, we sat in traffic for two hours, meanwhile starving and dehydrated, forked over 86 Euros for the trip, and finally lugged all our stuff to the third floor of said apartment. We rang the bell. No response. J then remembered "3rd floor" actually meant what we consider the 4th floor - duh!
Eventually we staggered over to a nearby cafe, barely conscious at this point. The next thing I knew, a young girl had come to our table and dropped a sheet of newspaper down on my phone, poised to snatch it up right under my very sleepy eyes. Thank god she was not as slick as she could have been and I was just conscious enough to notice what was going on. Our waitress also thankfully came over and shooed her away. A very confused J had no idea what just happened - good thing she didn't go for his phone. I had been warned of the pickpockets but had no idea just how bad it was. I was actually a bit glad this happened - it was a good wakeup call and for the rest of the trip, I guarded my belongings much more tightly.
Our apartment was just a stone's throw away from the Louvre so it felt appropriate to head there on our first day. Of course, one could probably spend weeks just exploring the Louvre. It is incredible and overwhelming. This first set of photos is from my iPhone.
And this set from the x100.
There was some magical light in that place.
Simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Alice.

ReplyDeletesuch a gorgeous place. i'm digging the x100 pics especially -- and it seems so perfect for travel.
ReplyDeleteBravo for the waitress probably a Roman pickpockets. The photo of the Louvre great refinement, the first district is very old most central of the historical heart of Paris, I am left bank of 14, have you visited the Ile de la Cité.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful shots of the Louvre! I really love the very first one!!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of surprised they let you take photos of the mona lisa. when i was there everyone was fussing around:D:D
unfortunately you did not upload not the huge picture of the last supper on the opposite wall of the mona lisa:)
but also the film shots are so perfect!
I've been twice and love it. Hoping to go again sometime next year, hope the airbnb place was good!
ReplyDeleteO assume you went to see the Mona Lisa too?
wow, so gorgeous
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I lived in Paris for 5 months and I thought that upstairs view of the pyramids was a secret only I knew.
ReplyDeleteAs far as pickpockets go, I've heard some crazy stories from fellow students who studied with me. Sometimes people assault you at the ATM and grab the cash, or try to give you a gold ring they "found" and then claim a reward. The best thing to do is be alert (as in any big city) and learn how to say "non merci."
I've never been to Paris. this makes me feel I need to go NOW.
ReplyDelete*sigh* so pretty! Wonderful shots.
ReplyDeletegreat photos ! : ))

ReplyDeleteJust too good, the first picture of the Louvre is my favourite. I totally agree, it is a Bermuda triangle of art history. My friends and I circled the same galleries for several hours, lost!
