Public

A few weekends ago, I was a guest at the newly opened Public hotel on the Lower East Side. Being the photo geek that I am, I spent the majority of the time in the room observing the way the light moved through the room and re-taking the same photos when the light did change (I know, what a party animal right?). Overall, it's a beautifully done hotel with thoughtful amenities and branding, but what else would you expect from Ian Schrager. The most important discovery I made, though, was the chocolate chip cookie they serve at the food hall in the lobby. Seriously. Officially my favorite chocolate chip cookie in the city. Do not miss it if you happen to be in the area.

  7. Hi Alice! I first learned about you in the interview you did for Cup of Jo and have been a fan ever since. I am especially in love with your chic style. I am a petite Asian woman (5 feet) and always struggle to get the right balance. I find it very difficult to achieve the right balance without wearing heels (which I prefer not to wear on the daily basis). I don't know how tall you are, but how do you look so perfect in flats? Do you have any tips for short women like me?? Would so appreciate if you could share some secrets!

    1. Hi, and thank you for the kind note! My main problem is having a long torso and short legs, so I always wear high-waisted bottoms to trick my proportions and to look taller. If your'e well proportioned, you can get away with much more than I can! I think the key when being petite is just finding the right balance and getting things tailored. I try not to wear super flat flats, so even if they have a tiny .5 to 1inch heel, I find that I feel better in those. I'm still trying to figure it out myself heh.

    2. Hi Alice! Thank you so much for writing back - I feel so lucky/honored to get a personal advice from you :-) :-) :-) I get so much inspiration from your self portraits so I hope you will do many more of those and share with us on Instagram and here!! You always look so stunning no matter what kind of clothes you are in. I will keep your advice in mind and try to find my right balance! Thanks again! Best wishes, Kerri from NYC
