Shot with my new studio lighting kit. Natural light, I love you, but you have been very unreliable recently. Studio lighting, you're difficult, but can we be friends?
I've been spending the last week or so recalibrating and thinking about my goals for the second half of the year and beyond that. I generally feel like I'm on the right track but doubt/insecurity/impatience have been kicking my ass a bit. Ah the ebbs and flows of freelance life. I've been traveling so much this year that when I am in my homebase, I still feel like I'm in a bit of limbo, always needing to start thinking about the next trip. Unpacking and then repacking. Maybe it just takes some getting used to. Sheesh, this is a long-winded post about nothing. Let's just admire the peonies.
Simply stunning! I am on the lookout for a lighting kit, do you have any recommendations?
ReplyDeleteHi Alison,
DeleteI use a Profoto D1 kit but there are much cheaper options out there that have been recommended to me, like AlienBees and Einsteins. I'm still a newbie to this, so I can't say much about the kits out there!
So beautiful!!! Can't wait to see what else you bring with the lighting kit!
ReplyDeleteLimbo can be difficult, but so fertile. Gorgeous flowers!
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers!

Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Oh do tell what your lighting kit is! xo
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I adore the rich magenta/purple color :)
ReplyDeleteWow, stunning picture. It seems you've got this studio lighting thing nailed.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs! Peonies are one of my favorites to photograph! It's funny, I started with studio lighting and then moved to natural light. I'm impartial to both as they're great for different purposes.
ReplyDeleteHi Alice! Great pictures as always! As much as I love natural light, I am also looking to explore artificial lighting (it's about time… especially with the months of winter we have here in Montreal!): what kind of strobes would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteAnd also, I love when you talk more about yourself, your doubts, your thoughts… it's absolutely not a "long-winded post about nothing": you're human after all and we all have this kind of doubts/ up and downs, etc. Keep going! You and your work are truly inspiring! x
as always, beautiful pictures

It's good to have a healthy dose of self-doubt, and I know it hasn't hindered your progress. As far as I can see, you have accomplished so much this past year and I have a feeling you'll be doing so much more in the remaining year! Keep the awesome work coming, Alice!
ReplyDeletehi, I love the peonies! keeping up with our goals, dreams and ambitions drive us forward, and sometimes make us feeling like we don't have enough time or energy for the day! I do love the peonies.
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
