It's been a hectic few days, scrambling to meet a few deadlines before I leave for Iceland (!). I'm heading on a food press trip that my pal, Nicole, was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. So, lucky me! I have a love-hate relationship with travel; while I very much look forward to the new experiences and amazing photo opportunities of every trip I take, I am a nervous traveler and have serious flight anxiety (yeah, I know it's silly). Not to mention, the mad rush to get a large chunk of work done before definitely takes its toll on my physical well-being. AND not to mention being in stuck in lurching traffic on the way to JFK. Damn logistics.
Well, I'll need to become a better traveler, because I still have quite a bit of it ahead for me in 2013. And of course, I don't mean to sound ungrateful for the travel experiences, just that I wish I were better at not being so damn worrisome over it all.
For now, a photo from lunch with Nicole at Dumont. When the couple next to us got up to leave, we both instantly reached for our phones, wanting to capture the perfect imperfect beauty of lunch remains. So much of what I shoot gets fussed and styled with; it's wonderful when I find a scene just beautiful as is. (My iPhone version here; Nicole's here; SLR version below).
I hope to sneak in a post or two from Iceland. Until then!
Iceland? lucky lucky you! I've seen some amazing photos of the hotsprings there so hopefully you'd have plenty of picture perfect moments to capture:)
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite moments I capture are ones I stumble upon in cafes, hotel lobbies, restaurants... something just draws me to the scene.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am seriously jealous about your Iceland trip. I've been dreaming up a trip there for a few years now but other things have managed to get in the way. I can't wait to see your photographs Alice...
Just discovered your blog and am inspired by your work. Nothing is as beautiful as real life. Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteWha' ? Iceland!? Europe again? :)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever decide to visit Budapest also, let me know ;) as it's more close to me :).
Have a safe flight and I hope you'll visit more and more places in Europe!
oooh, Iceland! have an awesome time :)
ReplyDeletehope you do get to post in iceland, would love to see some photos. and i too LOVE the experiences of traveling and seeing new lands and cultures, but get flight anxiety and hate packing. if i could have one super power, it would be a la sabrina the teenage witch were i could flick my finger and all my clothes would magically condense into a small carry on...safe travels and looking forward to seeing iceland through your lens :)
ReplyDeleteit's about the lunch remains. the picture. i like the web shot most.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Iceland! Really look forward to your instagram shots :)
ReplyDeleteThis photo is so pretty and simple. Enjoy Iceland!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog, and it's beautiful. Safe travels! If you prefer sleeping on the plane, take Nyquil about 20 minutes before you board your flight. You'll be out cold for the whole trip!

Beautiful!!!!!!!! I am with you on the flight anxiety (but everything will be okay!!!! Nothing a glass of wine or two won't sort out, hehe).
ReplyDeletehi Alice!
ReplyDeletei think you know how much i love "the after" shots as well. it came up in a recent conversation with a man whose father owns a bar. i was saying how i am always disappointed when the table is bussed too quickly, and in turn he invited me to shoot at his father's bar, saying his dad never gets to cleaning up very quickly ;)
Oh so exciting! I just booked a month-long trip to Iceland this summer (and am a little worried about what I'll be eating over there) so I am EXTRA stoked to see your thoughts and photos from your visit.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I totally relate 100% about travel anxiety. I'm always fine once I get to where I'm going, but my actual travel days I'm usually a total wreck!
Safe Travels, Alice! I can completely understand the anxiety around flying. On my way home from Sydney the turbulance was so awful I was close to tears! LOL. Have a wonderful time. Can't wait to see your gorgeous photos! xo
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your photos from Iceland! I went for a couple of weeks by myself in October (much cheaper airfare) and it was well worth it - as in THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY I'VE EVER BEEN TO. I didn't feel like my pictures did it justice, but I bet yours will. Try to ride an Icelandic pony if you can and go to hot springs in a small town.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fantastic time in Iceland! I have a similar love-hate relationship with travelling, but as you said, perhaps I just need more practice with it. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great time. Looking forward to all the wonderful photos to come :D
ReplyDeletegreat
ReplyDeletewell done
ReplyDeleteSaw a couple of your iceland photos on facebook. Looks like you're having a great time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely shot. Embracing this kind of unhindered "beauty" is something you do so well, Alice!
